Columbus is located in both Columbia (mostly) and Dodge County, less than 30 minutes to Madison. Columbus is an historic city, named after Christopher Columbus, has a plethora of historic homes and businesses. The historic downtown district has two history minded organizations (Columbus Historic Landmark Preservation Commission and Columbus Area Historical Society) striving to preserve Columbus rich history for future generations.
Columbus has a railway station served by Amtrak, with service by the Empire Builder line. The Empire Builder line operates daily between Chicago and Seattle and Portland, Oregon.
